CWC 2023: BCCI gives update on Shubman Gill before the match against Afghanistan

Young Indian opener Shubhman Gill did not get a chance to make his World Cup debut against Australia in 2023. This young batsman is suffering from dengue and hence he could not play in the match. Gill developed high fever soon after reaching Chennai and was later diagnosed with dengue. Now BCCI has given an important update about him and informed that Gill has also been ruled out of the next match against Afghanistan and he will remain in Chennai.

India will play its next match against Afghanistan on October 11 in Delhi. In such a situation, there was a question in the minds of the fans whether he plays in this match or not, but now BCCI has completely clarified the situation and he is out.

On Monday, the BCCI gave a medical update on Gill through a press release and said,

Team India batsman Shubhman Gill will not travel with the team to Delhi on 9 October 2023. The opening batsman, who missed the team’s first match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai, is also out of the team’s next match against Afghanistan in Delhi on October 11. He will remain under the supervision of the medical team in Chennai itself.

Earlier, Shubman Gill had withdrawn from the match against Australia and did not go to Chepauk Stadium with the team. In his place, Ishan Kishan was included in the playing eleven, who was out on a golden duck. However, in case of Gill being out, Kishan is expected to get another chance.

India defeated Australia by 6 wickets. Batting first, Australia scored 199 runs in 49.3 overs, in reply India scored 201 runs at the loss of four wickets in 42 overs. However, it was not an easy win for the team as they had a poor start and three of their first four batsmen failed to open their account. After this, a brilliant partnership of 165 runs for the fourth wicket between Virat Kohli (85) and KL Rahul (97 not out) helped India win the match.
