CWC 2023: ‘Delhi really belongs to the hearts’ – Rashid Khan expresses gratitude for the support against England in a special way

The 13th match of the 13th edition of the World Cup (World Cup 2023) was played between England and Afghanistan (ENG vs AFG) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday, in which the Afghan team won by 69 runs. This is their biggest win in the history of the World Cup. After the match, Afghanistan’s leading bowler Rashid Khan thanked the Delhi fans in a very special way for supporting the team.

Hashmatullah Shahidi-led Afghanistan, batting first, scored 284 runs in 49.5 overs with the help of half-centuries from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (80) and Ikram Alikhil. (58). In reply, the England batsmen looked clueless against the Afghan spin bowling. Afghanistan’s spin trio took a total of 8 wickets together, due to which the entire England team was bowled out for 215 runs in 40.3 overs.

In this match played on Indian soil, Delhi fans showed their full support to the Afghanistan team and encouraged the Afghan players. Also, the victory was celebrated as if the Indian team had defeated England.

It is noteworthy that 25-year-old Rashid performed all-round in the match. While batting, he played an important inning of 23 runs and took three important wickets giving just 37 runs in his spell of 9.3 overs. This is the second victory of the Afghan team in the World Cup and they had earlier won against Scotland in 2015.
