CWC 2023: England opener breaks record with century against Bangladesh

The seventh match of the World Cup 2023 (ENG vs BAN) is being played in Dharamshala. Batting first in this match, the England team is moving towards a big score and left-handed batsman David Malan has an important contribution in this. Malan, who came to open, scored a century and scored runs against the Bangladeshi bowlers. With this century, Malan has also achieved a major feat in his name and has become the fastest batsman to score six centuries in the ODI format.

Bangladesh won the toss and asked England to bat first but it proved to be completely wrong. Dawid Malan added 61 runs in the first ten overs with Jonny Bairstow and then completed his half-century in 39 balls. Bairstow also managed to complete his half-century and was out on 115 runs after scoring 52 runs. Malan scored his sixth ODI century in 91 balls. He scored 140 runs in 107 balls with the help of 16 fours and five sixes.

David Malan became the fastest batsman to score six centuries in ODIs.

The England batsman completed his sixth century in the 23rd ODI innings of his career and became the fastest batsman to do so. Earlier this record was in the name of Pakistan’s opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq. Imam had played 27 innings for six ODI centuries. Third in the list is former Sri Lankan batsman Upul Tharanga, who did this in 29 innings. Former South African batsman Hashim Amla has scored six centuries in 34 innings, while Pakistan captain Babar Azam has scored 32 centuries in ODIs.

Malan has performed well this year and has scored four ODI centuries. He also equaled David Gower (1983) and Jonny Bairstow (2018) for the most centuries for England in a calendar year. They will have a chance to defeat both of them in the coming matches.
