IPL 2024 is in its final stages, there are still 4 matches left in the season. The last match of IPL season-17 will be played on 26 May. On the other hand, BCCI has started preparations for 2025 IPL. The mega auction is scheduled to be held later this year. BCCI is planning to make some important changes in this mega auction. Emphasis is being laid on increasing the number of players retained in the mega auction. IPL team owners also have different views on this.

‘What is mega auction?’

In this auction that lasts for several days, players are gathered together and sold to the highest bidder as per the rules and regulations of the IPL. Teams consist of a minimum of 18 players and a maximum of 25 players, with no more than eight foreign players.

‘What are the rules for retaining players?’

Currently, as per the retention rules for the auction, a team can retain a maximum of 4 players. In such a situation, teams get a chance to retain five players. Any team is allowed to retain a maximum of 2 foreign players.

‘The decision to retain 8 players would be wrong’

On 16th April B. CCI has filed a complaint against IPL in connection with the mega auction in Ahmedabad. Had a meeting with the owners of the teams. In which there was discussion on increasing the number of players retained in the mega auction. IPL team owners had different views on this. While many team owners welcomed the proposal, many also opposed it. Retaining 8 players will not give the IPL team owners a chance to build a strong team due to the absence of names of big players in the auction.
