England crash out of World Cup after crushing defeat to Australia

Reigning world champions England are going through a difficult phase in the ongoing ICC World Cup. Their journey in the tournament ended after a defeat against Australia on Saturday, 4 November. Batting first, the Kangaroos were successful in scoring 286 runs on the basis of a half-century from Marnus Labuschagne. In reply, the England team was all out after scoring 253 runs in 48.3 overs. While Australia won the match by 33 runs to strengthen their semi-final bid, England were officially eliminated from the tournament.

The match against Australia was England’s last chance to save themselves as they were on the verge of elimination from the ICC ODI World Cup being played in India. England won the toss and decided to bowl against Australia. The Kangaroo team did not have a good start. David Warner and Travis Head are at the crease. Steve Smith scored 44 and Marnus Labuschagne scored 71 runs. In the lower order, Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis contributed in taking the team to 286 runs.

Chasing the target of 287 runs set by Australia, England were reduced to 106 runs for 4 wickets. Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali are at the crease. Both scored 169 runs and Stokes returned after scoring 64 runs. After this, wickets kept falling and the England team’s hopes of victory diminished. Adam Zampa scored once again for Australia. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc took 2-2 wickets.

England, who won the ICC ODI World Cup title in 2019, were eliminated from the tournament in the first round. After the first 7 matches, the team managed to win only 1 match. Even after winning the remaining two matches, the English team would only be able to save honour. England became the second team after Bangladesh to be eliminated from the World Cup.
