Australian cricket legend Steve Smith is ready to make a splash in T20 cricket once again. He has joined Major League Cricket (MLC) franchise Washington Freedom. The tournament will start from July 4. The franchise has shared this information on social media. Washington Freedom shared Smith’s photo and wrote, ‘Welcome to the Steve Smith family.

Smith is away from T20 cricket

Smith was recently signed as a brand ambassador for Freedom. In 2023, NSW players Moises Henriques, Tanvir Sangha and Ben Dwarshuis were part of the Sixers and Josh Philippe was part of the Freedom team. Steve Smith, however, may have to struggle to make a place in the Australian team for the T20 World Cup 2024. He has not played much T20 cricket in recent times. He performed well for Sydney Sixers in the BBL 2022-23 season. He scored 346 runs at a strike rate of 174.74.

Smith has been the captain of this IPL franchise.

Steve Smith has also been the captain of IPL franchise Rising Pune Supergiants. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has played under the captaincy of Smith in IPL. Talking about Smith’s performance in IPL, he has scored 2485 runs in 103 matches played so far at an average of 34.51 and strike rate of 128.09. In the Indian Premier League, Smith has scored 1 century along with 11 half-centuries. His highest score is 101 runs. He was last seen playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021.
