Australia vs England Glenn Maxwell ruled out of first Test due to concussion

After a poor start to the World Cup 2023, five-time ODI champions Australia have been in great form. The team is currently fourth in the points table and needs a win or two to make it to the semi-finals. Meanwhile, the team has suffered a big setback. Their explosive all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is injured.

Maxwell suffered a head injury while playing golf and has been ruled out of Saturday’s match against England. Maxwell’s departure could prove to be a big loss for the team. According to media reports, Maxwell was holding a golf cart while returning from the clubhouse to the team bus. After this he lost control and got injured. According to an estimate, it may take 6 to 8 days for them to recover.

Head coach Andrew MacDonald said he was honest with the information he gave. He’s doing well, he’ll start some light practice today and we think that will be a pretty straightforward return to play protocol. Let’s just say the lucky thing was that there were no other injuries. The situation could have been worse.

“Honestly, it shocked everyone when it came to the conclusion that there was an injury and he would miss a match,” he said. There was nothing untoward in behavior throughout the day, this was an obvious accident and unfortunately, it has been compromised. What are we doing as a team?’

Unfortunately that now means Australia will need an all-rounder capable of bowling and batting, with one of Marcus Stoinis or Cameron Green likely to come into play. “They will, obviously, make a small change to the back of our batting and no doubt it will compromise our bowling a bit and the way Glenn has performed with the ball,” McDonald said. There is no doubt that this will highlight our bottom line. Ultimately how is Glenn performing, but Marcus Stoinis was doing everything well in training today.

Maxwell has scored 273 runs for Australia in this World Cup. He has also taken 4 wickets. Maxwell holds the record for scoring the fastest century in the history of ODI cricket. He completed his century in just 40 balls in the match against Netherlands in the same World Cup. He scored 106 runs in 44 balls with 9 sixes and a strike rate of 240.91.

Australia is in a good position to make it to the semi-finals after winning four consecutive matches. After England, Australia has to play Afghanistan on 7 November and Bangladesh on 11 November. If Australia has to reach the semi-finals, it will have to perform well in these three matches. In such a situation, lack of spinner in the team can harm them. Although Travis Head, who scored a brilliant century on his return from injury, can do his job, Head did not bowl in his last match.
