Pakistan qualify for the semi finals

Pakistan cricket team’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals of Cricket World Cup 2023 have increased by defeating New Zealand on the grounds of Bengaluru. Fakhar Zaman’s century and Babar Azam’s half-century gave Pakistan a befitting reply despite scoring 401 runs in their first innings in Bengaluru. However, both Pakistan and New Zealand have 8-8 matches in the points table. Both the teams are at fourth and fifth position with 4-4 wins and 4-4 losses respectively. New Zealand’s net run rate is +0.398 while Pakistan’s net run rate is +0.036.

Pakistan’s next match is against England on 11 November. Before this, New Zealand team will face Sri Lanka on 9 November. If Pakistan wants to qualify, it will have to win by 130 runs more than New Zealand. For example, if New Zealand beats Sri Lanka by 50 runs, Pakistan needs to beat England by 180 runs. If this happens, they will qualify for the semi-finals with a better net run rate.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan are in the semi-finals. Even after Pakistan’s victory against England, there is a direct semi-final. Afghanistan is currently placed sixth in the points table with 4 wins from 7 matches. Their next two matches are against Australia and South Africa. If he wins either one, it will be a disaster for Pakistan. So if Afghanistan loses both the matches then Pakistan will be able to advance.
