I won’t call back, ask ICC

ODI World Cup 2023. The 38th match of the World Cup 2023 was played between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh Cricket on 6 November in Delhi. This match remained in the headlines more due to its controversy than its result. Sri Lanka’s experienced all-rounder Angelo Mathews was given a time-out due to the delay during the match. When asked about the controversy after the match, the Bangladesh captain said that he had no regrets.

In fact, after a time-out appeal was made against Mathews, the umpires asked him for his opinion again, but he remained firm on his decision. Fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock said that on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Richard Illingworth twice asked Shakib if he wanted to withdraw his appeal. But the Bangladesh all-rounder did not change his mind. As a result, Mathews was out on time for the first time in international cricket.

The Bangladesh captain said that they are playing according to the rules of the game and if anyone has any problem with it then they should ask the ICC to change the rules.

In the press conference after the match, Shakib said, “I appealed to the umpires. He (umpire) asked me if you would like to call him again. I said that if he was out, I wouldn’t mind calling him again. I will never call them again.

When asked about the spirit of cricket, he replied, ICC should look into this and change the rules. He said, it is in the ICC rules. I don’t know whether it is right or wrong, but I had to take a decision.
