Batting first, RCB batsmen performed commendably and scored 218/5 on the scoreboard. To reach the playoffs, Chennai had to score 201 runs, but the host team’s bowlers played brilliantly and limited the Super Kings to 191 runs.

Bengaluru had won only one and lost seven of the first eight matches of IPL 2024, but after winning six consecutive matches, RCB reached the last four on the basis of net run rate. Both the batsmen made a quick partnership of 61 runs. MS Dhoni scored 25 runs on 13 balls, while Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 42 runs on 22 balls. Chennai scored 191 runs losing seven wickets in 20 overs, while Bengaluru won by 27 runs. Although Chennai needed 201 runs to qualify, the visiting team fell 10 runs short of this score.
