Only one player was held responsible for the defeat against India: Former captain

The Australian cricket team also faced defeat in its second match in the World Cup 2023 (CWC). The team lost badly to South Africa. Earlier, Australia had lost to India. Former captain Michael Clarke believes that only Alex Carey was held responsible for the defeat against India and he did not play against South Africa. However, Australia lost the match.

South Africa defeated Australia by 134 runs. Batting first, South Africa scored 311 runs for 7 wickets in 50 overs. In reply, Australia was all out for 177 runs in 40.5 overs. Marnus Labuschagne scored the highest score of 46 runs. Not only this, the Australian team dropped six catches in this match and they had to suffer the consequences for it.

Alex Carey was solely to blame for the defeat: Michael Clarke

Clarke said on the Big Sports Breakfast that Alex Carey should not have been dropped for the match against South Africa. They said,

You cannot select the team based on the first match against India. If you thought Alex Carey was a problem, you left him. I am very disappointed with this decision. I said that you are blaming only Alex Carey for the defeat against India. I don’t know what positives the team took from that match and whether it was a good selection or not. You took Alex Carey to India for the World Cup but dropped him after playing one match.
