Bishan Singh Bedi Death: Great Indian spinner Bishan Singh Bedi passed away on Monday. He left this world at the age of 77. He was also the former captain of the Indian cricket team. He played 67 Test and 10 ODI matches for India. The news of his demise has shocked the entire cricket world amid the ODI World Cup 2023. He was a part of Indian cricket from 1966 to 1979. He also led the team in 22 matches.

Under the captaincy of Bishan Singh Bedi, India won 6 out of 22 test matches. The cause of his death is not clear yet, but according to the information, he had undergone bypass surgery in the year 2021. He was a heart patient. Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has expressed condolences on his demise. He said, “This is an irreparable loss for Indian cricket. The entire cricket world stands with his family in this hour of grief. His contribution to Indian cricket has been huge. When I was a Punjab player, Bishan Singh Bedi was my coach. His departure is a big loss for the cricket world.

Bishan Singh Bedi played a total of 77 matches during his international cricket career. This includes 67 Tests and 10 ODIs. Bedi took 266 wickets in 118 innings at an average of 28.71. He has taken 10 wickets in seven ODIs.

He scored 656 runs in 101 innings at an average of 8.98. He has one half-century to his name in Test cricket. In ODIs, he could score only 31 runs in seven innings. The trio of Bedi, Chandrashekhar and Prasanna was once considered the iron trio of Indian cricket.

Bishan Singh Bedi was part of India’s first ODI win in 1975. At that time, ODI matches were limited to 60 overs. He played an important role in this victory against East Africa. He gave only 6 runs in 12 overs and took one wicket. In first-class cricket, he has taken 1560 wickets in 370 matches.
