Shooter Shriyanka Sadangi wins Olympic quota

Sriyanka Sadangi secured India’s 13th quota for the Paris Olympics by finishing fourth in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) event at the ongoing Asian Shooting Championships in Changwon, Korea. Sriyanka scored 440.5 but was eliminated after the 43rd shot in the final of 45 shots.

Lee Yunseo of Korea won the gold medal, while Han Jiao of China won the silver medal. The bronze medal went to China’s Xia Xiu. India’s number one shooter Sifat Kaur Samra scored 592 in qualification while Aashi Chouksey scored 591.

Sriyanka and Ayushi Poddar entered the top eight with scores of 588 and 587. Manini Kaushik stood tenth. In the final, Sriyanka started with 10.9. Her score after the first five kneeling shots was 51.3, while Aayushi and Aashi stood sixth and seventh respectively. In the prone event, Aashi made a good start while Shriyanka finished fourth.

Ayushi has slipped to seventh place. In the fourth shot, Sriyanka scored 10.8 and Aashi scored 8.7. India’s quota was decided after the first ten shots in the standing positions. Korea’s Bae Sanghi and Ayushi finished eighth and seventh respectively.
