Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohsin Khan, Nitish Rana power UP to six wicket win over Gujarat

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023: With the help of half-centuries from experienced fast bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohsin Khan, Uttar Pradesh defeated Gujarat by six wickets and reached the quarter-finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament here on Tuesday. Earlier, Gujarat won the toss and batted first and scored 127 runs losing eight wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Uttar Pradesh won with eight balls to spare thanks to Rana’s unbeaten 71 off 49 balls.

Out of the Indian national team for over a year, Bhuvneshwar produced a good display of seam and swing bowling, taking three wickets for 21 runs in four overs. Left arm fast bowler Mohsin took two wickets for 13 runs. For Gujarat, only Saurav Chauhan (32 runs in 21 balls) could survive with the bat. While chasing the target, Uttar Pradesh had a bad start and lost two wickets for 22 runs in the fourth over.

After this, Rana along with Sameer Rizvi (30 runs in 39 balls) added 81 runs in 12.1 overs and took the team to the threshold of victory. Rana hit seven fours and two sixes in his innings. Dhruv Jurel (13 not out) gave victory to Uttar Pradesh by hitting a four and a six off left-arm fast bowler Arjan Nagwaswala.

In the second match of the day, Riyan Parag scored his seventh consecutive half-century as Assam defeated Bengal by eight wickets to enter the quarter-finals. Parag also took two wickets. Bengal scored 138 runs for eight wickets in which Parag (two wickets for 23 runs) and Akash Sengupta (two wickets for 29 runs) did the most damage.

Bengal batsmen failed to convert good starts into big innings. Karan Lal scored 24 runs and Abhishek Porel scored 23 runs. Abhimanyu Easwaran (21) and Kaushik Maiti (21 not out) also played useful innings. In reply, Assam scored 142 runs for two wickets with 2.1 overs remaining with the help of Parag (50 not out on 31 balls, four sixes, two fours) and Bishal Roy (45 not out on 36 balls, six fours, one six). .
