The franchise gave a big responsibility to this key member of RCB associated with Punjab Kings after 7 years.

With the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), all the franchises have started making many major changes in their teams. The auction process of players for the upcoming season will also be held in Dubai on December 19. The Punjab Kings franchise has appointed Sanjay Bangar as head of cricket development, who was the head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore last season. Bangar has been associated with the Punjab Kings in the past, in which he was the team’s head coach in 2015 and 2016, and assistant coach in the 2014 season.

Sanjay Bangar’s record as a coach

When Punjab Kings appointed Sanjay Bangar as assistant coach in the 2014 IPL season, the team reached the finals but could not win the title. When Bangar was the head coach in the 2015 and 2016 seasons, the team finished at the bottom of the points table in both these seasons. Bangar was then appointed as a batting consultant with the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the IPL in the year 2021, but he was then appointed as the head coach of the team in the very next season. However, RCB failed to win the title in both seasons. For this reason, the franchise severed its relationship with Bangar at the end of the 2023 season. Now after 7 years, Sanjay Bangar has again returned to the Punjab Kings franchise, in which he will be seen playing a completely new role.

Punjab released only 5 players before the auction

Ahead of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Punjab Kings have released only five players from their team, including Shahrukh Khan, whom they bought for Rs 9 crore. Punjab Kings have also released Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Mohit Rathi, Baltej Singh Dhanda and Raj Angad Bawa. Punjab now has Rs 29.10 crore to auction.
