Abhay Sharma said, “I am extremely grateful to UCA for this opportunity to work with a group of talented cricketers. After only being in Uganda for a few days it already feels like my second home. I am here to contribute to the team’s aspirations, which also include defeating the top teams in the world in the upcoming World Cup. I intend to work with the young team. Ugandan cricket has performed well in the last 12 months. We need to improve our fielding.

Some shortcomings need to be corrected

Sharma said, “We have qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024. Imagine how much better we can perform if we eliminate some shortcomings. With increased sports awareness and mental strength we can compete with the best teams in the world any day. The UCA Board has pledged its full support as I look to leverage my expertise and lead the team to further success.

UCA Secretary Jackson Kavuma said, “We selected Abhay Sharma for his strong leadership qualities and impressive track record of success at the professional and international level. His coaching stint with teams like Delhi Ranji team, Rest of India and India A and B in the Deodhar Trophy is a testament to his talent.
