Women Asian Champions Trophy 2023: The Indian women’s hockey team continued their unbeaten run in the Jharkhand Women’s Asian Champions Trophy with a 5-0 win over Korea in their final pool match on Thursday. Salima Tete (6, 36), Navneet Kaur (36), Vandana Kataria (49) and Neha (60) scored goals for India.

With this win, India reached the top of the points table with 15 points from five matches. Meanwhile, Korea finished their campaign in the group stage in fourth place after scoring seven points from five matches. As per the standings, both the teams will meet once again in the semi-finals.

India will face Korea in the second semi-final of the tournament on November 4. Like their previous matches, India started the game with an aggressive high-pressing strategy and consistent attacks, taking an early lead. In the opening moments of the match, Salima Tete (6) scored a brilliant goal to give the host team an early lead.

India continued to attack aggressively by continuously penetrating the encirclement. Although the team came close to scoring the second goal on several occasions, they failed to take advantage of those chances. By the end of the first quarter, India had taken a 1-0 lead.

In the second quarter, like the first quarter, India maintained its dominance and made quick passes to keep Korea on the defensive. India also earned two penalty corners during this period, but could not take advantage of them as the teams were leading 1-0 over the hosts till the half-time break.

Determined to get back into the game, Korea became aggressive in the third quarter and even got on goal on a few occasions with a potential equaliser. Nevertheless, India quickly counter-attacked to turn the tide and assert its dominance.

Their persistence paid off when they were awarded a penalty corner, following which Navneet Kaur (36) fired a powerful shot into the back of the net. After some time, Salima Tete (36) showed her strength by scoring a remarkable field goal, taking India’s lead to 3–0, which remained intact till the end of the final quarter.

Despite gaining a good lead in the final quarter, India continued to challenge the Korean defence. Vandana Kataria (49′) made the score 4-0 with a brilliant flick. Neha (60) scored a field goal in the last moments of the match to give the Indian team a 5-0 victory.
